When toddlers become overtired, it can disrupt their nighttime sleep and make it tough for them to settle down. But if they sleep too much during the day, it can also lead to nighttime sleep issues. Ensuring your child gets the appropriate amount of daytime sleep for their age not only improves their nighttime sleep but also sets the stage for healthy sleep habits as they transition to one nap.
What is the difference between a routine and guide?
The routine has age-appropriate awake windows and a routine to give you guidance on what your child's day can look like
The guide looks at the big picture giving you many different tips and tricks to establish healthy sleep habits, including an age appropriate routine.
How does the routine work?
You will have access to age-appropriate routines.
During the first 3 weeks, your newborn should sleep on demand without awake windows or a set routine. That's why we don't have a specific routine for this age group.
Between 3 to 16 weeks, I don't push strict routines. Instead, age-appropriate awake times within the routines.
Once your baby hits 4 months, its the perfect time to create some structure. The routine I recommend is the short-long routine, as it sets up healthy sleep habits for the future. When the time is right to trim and drop naps, it will be an easy transition for your child.
Is this routine personalised?
No, the routines aren't personalised, but they are age-appropriate. I do encourage you to not strictly follow the clock, but monitor your child's tired signs, recognising that fixed routines may not always align with your child's needs.
Consider the routine as a flexible routine that provides structure while maintaining a steady pace for the family.
